How to Care for Your Jewellery

In Iceland, silver can tarnish or darken due to sulphur in the geothermal water.
Here are some tips to help keep your jewellery looking new.

1. Keep your jewellery away from water and steam. That means do not keep your jewellery in your bathroom.

2. Clean your jewellery with a cloth after wearing it. Moisture and perfume can affect the colour of your jewellery. Just wipe the jewellery and store it in a dark place, such as a jewellery box.

3. If the jewellery is gold plated, the goldplating will always wear off over time. Here we can clean the jewellery and give your jewellery a new life of being a silver piece. Or get the item gold plated again, Lilja Björk Jewellery does offer gold plating. 

4. If you have a piece of 925 silver jewellery, boil 1 cup of water and let it cool, but we recommend keeping the water warm. Get an old toothbrush and half a teaspoon of dishwashing soap. Let the jewellery sit in the water for 15 minutes. If you have  chemical-based solutions or enzymatic cleaners (drain cleaner), then add just a half a teaspoon to the mix. Then take the brush and clean the jewellery. After this, the silver jewellery should be clean.
